Wild Salmon V/S Farmed Salmon

Salmon forms a component of staple diet for so many meat consumers. It has a distinct flavour and a delectable taste that makes everyone crave for more! Salmon finds applicability in several relishing recipes like Fiesta salmon rice bowls, Baked Cajun Parmesan salmon, grilled salmon, roasted salmon, and the list goes on.

Salmons that you consume can be categorized under two broad categories- farmed and wild caught Salmon. Let us consider briefly how the two differ-

Wild Caught Salmon

Wild caught salmon is a difficult find. Not every store or service, stores a wild caught salmon. It is caught in the natural environment namely in the oceans, lakes, and rivers. Wild Salmons feed on natural organisms surrounding them hence are untreated and maintain their originality. Since they feed on invertebrates, they have a greater concentration of minerals and lower fat content. A study shows wild caught Salmon have lower exposure to contaminants and therefore are a more preferable option. However as mentioned before; wild meat is rarely supplied. Wild caught salmon at PapaEarth.ca comes in a good quality and is well-packaged to reach you fresh.

Farmed Salmon

More than half of the Salmon supplied worldwide falls under the Farmed category. Farmed Salmons are bred solely for human consumption in fish farms through the process of aquaculture. They are nourished with a diet which is processed, high in fat and protein to bulge their size. This becomes the cause of artificiality. Farmed Salmon are equally high in proteins but their fat content is significantly higher than wild caught salmon. They traditionally contained a higher concentration of contaminants; but now due to new standards, the levels have been reduced. Due to a high density of fish bred in aquaculture; there are magnified chances of susceptibility to diseases and infections. To tackle this; farmed fish are treated with antibiotics. This insertion of antibiotics is often unregulated, causing a problem to the industry. Antibiotics are not only unethical environmentally but can also pose severe threats to the consumers.

Now that we are well acquainted with the facts; we have a fair idea to make an informed decision. Natural is always better than artificial. The only limitation which is also an impactful one is the exorbitant price of wild caught salmon. But in the end, health is over everything. So, choose wisely and feast on scrumptious Salmon recipes super soon!
